The Four Parks Update and Possible Name Change or Closure

Okay I'm in need of some help. Recently the website has become mostly gaming related and I was wondering what you readers may think of going solely gaming with a few non game things thrown in for good taste. Also if I do that I'm going to have to redesign the logo and I will change the color scheme. Also If I want to change the name I will have to buy a custom domain or else I will lose readers coming hear from  thefourparksandmore.blogspot.com URL. Also with that domain I need a new name and I don't don't what something Nintendo related could be. Please tell me what you think. Big changes may be coming but I'm going to take it slowly. I used to average at around 400-500 views a month but now it is over 1000. One last thing, I'm not sure I want to continue working on this blog and I a feeling a little lost. The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword Review

Visit My New Site at http://nintendogamerthoughts.blogspot.com

For many years people have said that there is no such thing as perfect. I had believed that. I had thought nothing could come close to perfection since nothing can be perfect. Well, still nothing is perfect but The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword comes really close. To find out why read after the break:

Super Mario 3D Land Review

An outstanding game

The tanooki suit is both helpful and super cute.
"Super Mario 3D Land is not only the best game on the 3DS, but one of the best games ever.
Super Mario 3D Land follows the story everyone knows: Peach is kidnapped and Mario saves her. As always the characters and levels themselves are charming and Mario in his tanooki suit is just plain cute along with fantastic environments that provide fun platforming challenges..." Hey! Listen! Nintendo is Going to be OK

Super Mario 3D Land and The Legend of Zelda Skyward sword came out only within the past few weeks and they have been doing huge numbers.

  • Super Mario 3D Land has sold over 500,000 units making it the fastest selling handheld Mario game
  • The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword has sold 535,000 units making it the fastest selling Zelda game
Things are also looking up for the 3DS and Wii:
  • Sales of the 3DS increased 49% the week of Super Mario 3D Land's release
  • Sale of the 3DS during Black Friday and the rest of that week were tripled at 325%
  • On Black Friday the Wii sold 500,000 units making it the Wii's biggest black Friday

So things are really looking up for Nintendo! You can find the original story by clicking here.

Poll Results: Mario or Luigi?

The results are in and the answer is out. The Four Parks readers love Mario a lot more then Luigi. Mario won by 72%. Mario does have more games, and even the games with Luigi in them still use Mario in the title. Even Luigi's last name is Mario. Well at least he has Luigi's Mansion 2.

Memories of a VHS: Around the World with Mickey and Friends

For some reason recently I was thinking about all the old Disney VHS tapes I used to have when I was little. Most of them were really just advertisements yet and I loved watching them. Sadly flooding in the basement destroyed those tapes. Though I would still rather have a flooded basement then a first floor which happened somewhat recently and had force me to move out for two months or so. One memory of these VHS tapes was this one with Mickey and his friends watching stuff about Disney World. I really don't remember much but I was ale to find a clip of it. Or maybe it is the whole thing. I really can't remember. So here is Around the World with Mickey and Friends:

If anyone knows anything about this, please leave a comment and tell me what you know.

Opinion of the Week: Why Disney Needs to Change the Name of Advance Dining Reservations

Okay this week on the not so weekly Opinion of the Week I want to tell you about my problem with the the name Disney uses for restaurant reservations: Advanced Dining Reservations. You may think this seems nit-picky but guess what, you are right. This is the most stupid thing to complain about yet it bothers me so much. My problem is that Advanced Dining Reservations is such a redundant name. by saying reservations it means it is in advance. So the name implies that you are making reservations just to have the chance to make reservations. "So what Disney has a reason, quit complaining" you are probably saying to yourself. Well what reason is it? Do they thing the average guest does not know what it means to make dining reservations? Are they questioning my intelligence. I don't know but something is going on and I want to know why. Leave a comment and tell me what you think Am I crazy? Am I right? Or is this pointless? Whatever your thoughts are leave a comment.

Playing Sonic the Hedgehog for the First Time

The original Sonic the Hedgehog has been around for twenty years but I have only just played it for the first time a few weeks ago. Honestly I had not really played much Sonic so it felt new and fresh like it did for some in the 90's. I had purchased the game in Sonic Classic Collection for the DS because I wanted to prepare myself for Sonic Generations. I felt that I should not dive into this new game celebrating Sonic's  lineage without playing the original. What stood out to me was how different it was from other platformers, being that it feels unique and not generic in the slightest. Though personally I still don't think it is as good as Mario, Sonic's speed adds an interesting gameplay mechanic. After playing the game I plan on purchasing Sonic Generations for the 3DS this year. Also I really love the theme to the Green Hill Zone:

Oswald the (Not So) Lucky Rabbit

How it was meant to be.

In case you don't know Oswald the Lucky Rabbit was Walt Disney's main cartoon character before mickey Mouse. Long story short due to legal technicalities had Universal, the distributor at the time, be able to keep Oswald without keeping Walt. So here we are today and Mickey Mouse is the star. In Epic Mickey Oswald dislikes hates Mickey very much from stealing the spotlight. Though they may be fictional I cannot help feel the same way. Mickey is a mouse and Oswald is a rabbit. Since when did people like mice? That does not make sense does it? Oswald conducted a trolley, Mickey a Steamboat. Is a train really inferior to a steamboat? Am I making that much sense, I don't know but my point being is that today take some time to think about Oswald, if it wasn't for him Mickey would not exist and it is sad he does not get any credit. Watch this short to celebrate:

DSi 3rd Anniversary

Today marks the 3rd birthday of the Nintendo DSi being released in Japan on November 1st 2008. I loved my DSi so much that I sold it to buy 3DS games! But really looking black on the DSi I think about is DSiWare. Their were many good games on DSiWare but what really held it back was the awful menu. You can look only at two games at once, no joke. Thankfully that problem has been remedied with the much better eShop. So thanks for the fun, though next time try to make your transfer tool app for bringing DSiWare games to the 3DS a little bit faster, thanks.

Why Is Sounds Dangerous! Still At Hollywood Studios?

Yes, this still exists.
So I have been thinking this for awhile now. Sounds Dangerous! at Disney's Hollywood Studios really has no business of existing. It is open seasonally when the park is really busy but even then any place with air conditioning on days like that will attract the masses. This show is dated. How is this show dated? Well it has Drew Carey. Now you're thinking "Well Drew Carey hosts Price is Right?' Well that is true but when this opened the Drew Carey Show was still on and had 3 or 4 years left in it. I have no problem with Drew Carey and I think a new movie with him would be good but I'll tell you about that later. So if you have not seen Sounds Dangerous here it is:

If you watched it with headphones you just got the exact same experience without having to spend 80 bucks and the other money you inevitably spent which I will write about another time. So how could they improve this show? They can't and that is the problem. There is no way to improve it with out filming a new movie. No, I don't have a solution for Disney I just have a question. Could you please update this, I would love to see Drew Carey but the same show for 10 years is a little to much when it isn't up to the quality of a Star Tours or Muppet Vision 3D.

Opinion of the Week: Why Disney Should Not Build "Avatar Land"

Time once again for the less then weekly Opinion of the Week! So Avatar Land, or whatever it is going to be called, is coming. I know that, I know how much I moan and complain it is not going to change anything. For me personally I really did not like Avatar. I found it boring and unoriginal. That is just my opinion so don't get upset reading this if you are a big fan. That is good for you, it just is not my thing. Now from the standpoint of Disney I do not think it is a wise decision. Here are  my four key reasons:
  • There has only been 1 Avatar movie. Disney has no way of knowing whether or not the sequels will succeed or fail.
  • Na'vi are not animals, nor even mythical like the Yeti which is in need of being fixed. Putting those creatures in is like putting in a High School Musical show in Tomorrowland which already happened.
  • They could be spending this money on a new experience not found anywhere else.
The #1 reason is that Avatar does not have the impact that Harry Potter has. This is a move to compete with Universal's Harry Potter but Harry Potter has legs and for the near future it is looking good. I think they would have been better off doing some sort of Star Wars land at Hollywood Studios since they already have a good relationship with Lucasfilm. Star Wars has been around for more then 30 years and is a proven popular franchise. In the end I have no say in what Disney does or does not do. Tell me what you think. Are you happy with this Avatar Land or would you rather see something else? Leave a comment and tell me what you think.

Mario's Picross Review

Mario's picross is the first in the series of fun puzzles on Nintendo's handheld systems. Picross is played by having numbers lined up on the x and y axis. Using the numbers you mark and remove squares from the grid using the information given to you by comparing numbers and using logic. It is a lot more fun then it sounds! While it is called Mario's picross Mario is mostly just in the top left corner of the screen reacting to mistakes you make. Also there are some different Mario themed puzzles like a  Goomba made out of the squares. The game is excellent packing a good amount of content with challenging puzzles. You can download it on the Nintendo eShop for only $3.99.

15 Years of Nintendo 64: Kirby Then and Now

It may be Zelda's 25th but this year has been good for Kirby. With two games what Kirby fan would be upset about that. This years marks 15 years of the Nintendo 64 so I thought I would take another look at how the games were advertised after my Super Mario 64 post. First of N64:

Now Wii:

Though the N64 one was made for TV I can't help but feel they could show more gameplay. Though it is nice to see that 15 years later Kirby is still being used.

Kirby's Dreamland Review

Kirby's Dreamland on the Game Boy marks the first appearance of the lovable pink guy back in 1992. Except back then he was a white ghost looking creature due to the Game Boy's monochromatic screen. The game is short but it features a more difficult mode after your first play through. It is a sidescrolling platformer and features fun gameplay and great Kirby animations. This was the only Kirby game without Kirby's ability to copy enemies powers, which did not come until Kirby's Adventure which you can read about here. The game is availbe for only $3.99 on the Nintendo 3DS eShop. I recommend you suck this one up and spit it back out(if you are not fimilar with Kirby that is one of the ways he attacks enemies) today!

So from Nintendo Everything is box art for the slider pad add on in Japan.  You can see more picture of the attachment on my previous post about it here.

Kirby Mass Attack Review

Kirby Mass Attack is a fun game that delivers on all levels. Essentially the plot is that Kirby has been split into 10 Kirbys and he goes on a quest to defeat the villain who did it and restore his body. The game is all controlled by the touch screen. Usually I am not excited by that but it works really well with this game. Occasionally it can be a problem when controlling 10 at once though. The game looks great. It is a 2D side scroller that has great backgrounds and character animations. It can be funny seeing all the Kirbys  toppling over each other or pummeling an enemy. The music is fantastic. You can read about that in a previous post here. The game offers a good challenge and the medals will keep you coming back for more. With the aforementioned medals you can unlock mini-games like a Kirby pinball game and a Kirby space shooter. Altogether Kirby Mass Attack is a great game and I recommend all DS and 3DS owners pick it up. The 3DS can play DS games so it really is just another great game to play on the system. So go buy it!

Disney Has A Newly Registered Video Game Trademark

Disney recently trademarked Castle of Illusion. This was originally a game on the Sega Genesis. Could this be a new game? Or a virtual console release? Or involving Epic Mickey 2? Or is it just another trademark being made which  is done often by big companies? I guess we will just have to wait and see. If it is a new game, I doubt they will advertise it like this:

Gizmondo or N-Gage: Either Way You Don't Win

Here are some videos of arguably the two worst game systems of all time. First the Gizmondo:

There were a few major problems with the Gizmondo. Two of the most notable ones is that it was way to expensive. You could get it for either $400, or $229 and be forced to watch three advertisements a day on it. If you were a poor soul who bought the system for the $400 there was no point since the advertisements never appeared. Also for some reason the service was called Smart Adds with ads spelled wrong. The other major issue was that one of the executives behind the system was involved with a mafia in Sweden. To be fair to the Gizmondo the N-Gage was also an incredibly terrible system. It was made by Nokia and was shaped like a taco. There was the problem of a weird screen and having to remove the battery to change the game.

So both were not so great. Lets just be thankful that there is the 3DS and the upcoming PlayStation Vita.

Opinion of the Week: Why Disney Should Not Get Rid of Free Trick-or-Treating

Yesterday it was revealed in the Orlando Sentinel that there will be no more free trick-or-treating at Downtown Disney. I understand the reasons stated in the article that "The event has become so popular-and crowded-that it has outgrown being a good guest experience, said Zoraya Suarez, a Disney World media relations manager." The thing about it is, is that the free trick-or-treating made residents of the area have an even better outlook on Disney. By getting rid of this, it seems like that it is big old Disney ruining all the fun. I believe what the representative says though. Disney has always been about costumer service. Their concern is not the cost of candy. If they were concerned about the cost of candy we would not be getting a new Fantasyland. I do not have a solution for this problem though. What do you think? Leave a comment and share your opinion with the world.
